As a kid, I grew up riding dirt bikes in my parent's field. I always loved going fast and I had a lot of fun doing it. I always said I would get back to that someday. Now that I'm older, I've decided that racing mountain bikes might be where it's at for me. So finally, after training and trying to get back in shape, I have my first race this weekend. Wish me luck...

Last night, before I went to bed. I decided to get one of my wrinkly button-up shirts and iron it. This morning when I got to work, I noticed that I had only ironed the main part of the shirt and not the sleeves.

Yesterday I tweeted about a similar incident where I put my arm up to itch my face and ended up punching myself in the jaw.

My point is: be sure to come and join us for the AIGA Creative Connect at the Great Dane Pub in downtown Madison. There's an 85% chance of me doing something dumb and/or hurting myself. I've done the math.*

Our first few Creative Connect events went well, but I think we can do better. The Malt House was great for our first 3 events and now we're moving to the Great Dane (the downtown one) for our next 3.

The perfect place to go in Madison for the beer enthusiast is the Malt House. I went there for my first time last Tuesday for an AIGA event that just started in Madison called Creative Connect. Basically, we just have some beer and talk about whatever we feel like. I'm hoping to get back there again sometime soon. If you're a home brewer or just love to try different types of beer, this is the place for you. They've got plenty of selection to keep you happy. If prefer to drink only mass-produced beers, you still might like the atmosphere, but a love for quality beer is really what seems to unite everyone.

A designer's life is full of hope and anticipation. Always waiting for the next big project or the next big challenge we can take on. I have had many interesting design opportunities in 2009, most didn't make it into my portfolio but they did help me grow and mature as a designer. In 2010 it is my intention to take some risks and do all of the things that I've always said I was going to do.

Ovid Clothing - For years now, I've always wanted to start a clothing company. Or at least print some sweet t's. It's been a long time now but after a year or so of planning, it looks like Ovid Clothing has a tentative launch date of March 2010. More information will be available soon at OvidClothing.com. You should be able to sign up with your email and receive a notification when the site goes live.

Recently, my good friend Jon helped me with some golf photos I wanted to take. Before the shoot, we talked about the details and got everything worked out. I normally always make a checklist of things that need to be completed and brought along with me before I good out on the actual shoot. On this shoot I forgot to bring a flashlight which is something I cannot believe I forgot. Not a huge deal though, I set up my gear using my cell phone as a flashlight.

We took the photos out the course at night, guiding ourselves between strobe flashes with cell phones and moonlight. Everything seemed to go fine. We finished a set of photos, I packed up my studio lights, stands, camera bag with lenses (all of which were sitting near me the whole time) and we strapped it on the golf cart and got ready to head back to the clubhouse. Just as we were ready to go, the sprinkler system turned on in the exact place that we were just taking photos.

I am very much aware that golf courses have sprinkler systems, but it was not something I had thought of when planning this shoot. So, with my dry camera gear safely in the cart with us, we headed back to the clubhouse after having some nervous laughter about our close-call.

Here are a few rough images from the shoot. Completed photos will be on my website soon.
